Inspirational People: A Grandad’s Adventure
Yesterday, our pupils were treated to a truly inspiring assembly led by the grandad of one of our students. Since his retirement, he has embraced an exciting hobby that has taken him on remarkable adventures. In 2010, alongside a group of fellow retirees, he discovered a hidden gem in The Yorkshire Dales—a cave they named ‘Shuttleworth Pot’, in honour of Lord Shuttleworth, the landowner.
The children were captivated as he shared the thrilling journey from the initial dive into the cave to the painstaking excavation that followed. They listened wide-eyed as he recounted the fascinating finds, including the bones of a dog and various other skeletal remains. The pupils were full of questions, eager to learn how these discoveries came to be. This assembly not only sparked their curiosity about caving but also highlighted the incredible stories that can emerge from pursuing one’s passions at any age.
