Year 5/6: Geography - Rivers

Year 5/6 had a trip out to Innovation at Hebden Bridge Mill to learn more about rivers for their current topic in geography.

They have been looking at the journey of a river from the source to the mouth. They were shown the GIANT WATERWHEEL in the café and the modern ARCHIMEDES SCREW which takes power from the river and helps power two coffee machines in the café. The children learnt about the buildings history, dating back 700 years and a little about the story of its rescue and restoration; they also gained some insight into the sustainable energy project which has helped return the building to total dependence on water power for all its energy and heating needs.
