Year 5/6 Design & Technology

In this captivating unit of Design and Technology, our students delved into the world of food production, starting with an exploration of beef production in the UK. This provided a solid foundation for understanding ingredient sourcing and sustainability. Our young chefs then turned their attention to the iconic Spaghetti Bolognese. The creative journey continued as our budding gastronomes researched various methods and ingredients to craft this classic meal. Armed with this knowledge, they made informed decisions to create their own adapted recipes.

Before the sizzle of pans and the clinking of utensils, students embraced technology to analyse the nutritional content of their creations. Using spreadsheets, they calculated the nutritional value, adding a layer of scientific precision to their work. Taking a leap into the world of marketing, the children channeled their creativity to design labels for their culinary masterpieces.

The grand finale saw our young chefs transform their ideas into reality. As the aromas wafted through the air, pupils not only savored the fruits of their labour but engaged in thoughtful evaluations, fostering a deeper understanding of the culinary process.

This project not only honed cooking skills but also nurtured creativity, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the world of food.
