Liz Flanagan - Author Visit for World Book Week

On Monday 4th March, Liz Flanagan - a local award winning author - came to visit the school. Liz ran an assembly for all children in which they got to ask lots of questions about why she became an author, what inspires her stories and what her working day looks like. The children also shared some of the wonderful reasons why they love reading books ‘it’s like a movie but in your head.’ ‘It takes you away to other places.’ ‘It calms me.’ ‘You can escape to other realities and lose yourself in the pages.’

Liz then ran a writing workshop with our Year 5/6 children:

She talked about her new book The Pirate's Dragon, and asked the children: are pirates heroes or villains? She tested the children’s knowledge in a pirate quiz. Then, the children got to start writing their own adventure using a Pirate Pick-and-Mix. Liz lead children through an accessible series of creative prompts designed to generate new ideas and a story of their own.

The kids were SO excited…..they couldn’t wait to meet an author who has inspired their imaginations with her excellent children’s stories.
