World Bee Day 2022

For World Bee Day 2022 we worked with Sand In Your Eye on a project to highlight the plight of bees. We ran this project over a number weeks - the children learnt all about bees in assembly and in class - looking at pollination, food production and biodiversity and how we can ensure that we protect bees in the future.

We were really excited to work with Sand In Your Eye on this important project.  Our children are talking more and more about how we can ensure that we care for our environment both locally and globally.  Bees play a vital role, as pollinators: they pollinate the food we need to survive and pollinate many of the trees and flowers that provide essential habitats for wildlife.  What’s more, we sowed wildflower seeds on an area of our school field; eventually this will turn into a beautiful wildflower meadow for all sorts of minibeasts and small mammals to come and enjoy.

The project not only resonated with our children but also dovetailed with many aspects of our curriculum: science, geography, PSHCE and maths (the making of 3D cardboard bees). World Bee Day 2022 will certainly live long in the memory of our school community!
